Stephan is pleased to announce his next public 8-week mindfulness course (MBSR), which will take place:
- on Monday evenings from 19:00 to 21:00
- from 18 January until 8 March 2021
- online using Zoom
Mindfulness can be helpful in many aspects of life. At its core mindfulness means paying attention to whatever is present without judgment. This helps us see our situation more clearly so that we can step back and take a fresher perspective. All too often we try to resolve problems by thinking our way out of difficulties, but that can create “mental circles” that make us stuck even deeper in the problem and we frustrate ourselves in the process.
When we are mindful, our attention is not entangled with the past or future, and we are not judging or rejecting what we experience at this moment. This can generate energy, clarity, and joy. We become fully present in our lives.
This is something that everyone can learn, and we practice it through meditation. Meditations have nothing mystical about them, they are forms of mental training, often they are described as the “gym of the mind”.
During the 8-week mindfulness course, you will learn practices to become more mindful and we will look at how to apply mindfulness to your life, so that that you can take this as a tool to help you build a more fulfilling life, whatever that may mean for you. Participants report many benefits from becoming more mindful. Common ones are:
- better health, especially with chronic pain, anxiety, and stress
- better interpersonal skills, at home and at work
- better well-being
At the first session, you will need to bring a mat and a blanket as some of the practices will preferably be done lying down. Otherwise, no further equipment will be needed. The course follows the curriculum of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, with elements of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), as taught at the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice of Bangor University, where I have trained.
You will have the opportunity to use Mindful Brian, a smartphone app, to access the coursebook. Details will be given closer to the start of the course.
In addition, a day retreat will take place on Sunday 28 February, again online. More details will be given closer to the date.
Course fee: £280 per person fully inclusive of the workbook, access to Mindful Brian, and day retreat. Concessions are available, we will not turn anyone away for monetary reasons.
